Look Before You Leap
While this advice from good ole’ Aunt Gertrude may be about as ’sexy’ as she is, it really does make a lot of sense.
Whether you’re cliff diving on the north shore of Oahu (highly recommended), or just launching a social media marketing campaign (a different kind of fun), surveying the scene before taking action is highly recommended.
You may have noticed a lapse in time since my last posting. Or maybe not. In any case, I have been spending a lot of my time testing the waters. For a list of influential blogs that I’ve been reading, take a look at at my ‘Links’ section.
Being relevant to the conversation is not optional.

Hey,
the need for a break at work and thus, wandering through FB lead me to your blog. Sounds interesting. I currently work at Slide and we consider ourselves as a company that is at the forefront of web 2.0 and socially generated network/media/entertainment so your blog is interesting and relevant. I’m starting to develop a blog myself but lack of time and focus are currently my biggest enemies. In due time …and hopefully sooner rather than later…i’ll have developed something bigger/better than my current online meanderings
Also, Gary Vaynerchuk is the man!

Thanks for the comment! That’s great that you work at Slide now. Seems like a very exciting place to be. I’m just finishing up the book “Once You’re Lucky, Twice You’re Good,” by Sarah Lacy. She gives an insightful background of the founders of some of the Web 2.0 companies, including Max Levchin of Slide. Highly recommended reading.
It definitely takes some discipline to establish and maintain a blog. The holidays balked my progress some, but I’m getting back into it. Be sure to drop me a line when you get yours up and running.
